17 dead due to flood, landslides across country in 2 days: Nepal Police
Aug 12, 2017-At least 17 persons have died across the country on Friday and Sunday due to flood and landslides triggered by heavy rainfall, Nepal Police said.
A statement released on Saturday said six persons were killed in Sunsari, four each in Kalikot, Rasuwa, Sindhuli and Chitwan, three in Panchthar, three in Banke, two in Baglung and one each in Jhapa and Makwanpur districts. Nepal Police said 32 persons have been killed in the past month due to flood and landslides.
Home Minister Janardan Sharma on Saturday morning organised a press meet to inform about the loss of lives and properties caused by the natural disasters. He said rescue effects in flood and landslides-affected districts and places were hindered by adverse weather conditions. He directed personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force for rescue efforts.
Ministry Spokesperson Dipak Kafle said district with high rainfall have been put on high alert. Two Nepal Army helicopters were readied to fly to flood affected parts of Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari but could not fly due to bad weather.
Home Ministry has also mobilised a helicopter at Itahari and Surkhet.
