NMA warns of stern protest, demands decisive dialogue to save Dr KC’s life
Nepal Medical Association has warned that it will resort to stern protests if the government failed to create an environment to end the hunger strike of TUTH senior surgeon Dr Govinda KC by holding decisive dialogue.Nepal Medical Association (NMA) has warned that it will resort to stern protests if the government failed to create an environment to end the hunger strike of TUTH senior surgeon Dr Govinda KC by holding decisive dialogue.
The 11th fast-unto-death by Dr KC seeking reforms in Nepal’s medical education system has entered the 23rd day—the longest one so far with no breakthrough in the talks—on Tuesday.
The umbrella organisation of Medical and Dental Doctors in Nepal had postponed its earlier decision to halt OPD services except emergency services in government hospitals in support of the protesting doctor in view of the recent flooding in the Tarai region. The association had urged the government to take necessary steps to address Dr KC’s demands.
The association renewed its warning as the government has remained apathetic towards the demands of Dr KC.
“We will be forced to take stern steps to save the life of Dr KC,” said NMA Chairman Dr Mukti Ram Shrestha, “His [Dr KC] health condition has worsened as the government failed to facilitate the talks in a decisive manner.”
He further said that the government has shown lackadaisical approach in addressing Dr KC’s demands after they postponed their protest.
