The private sector has joined the flood relief effort and has announced donations of cash and materials to help the victims of record flooding and landslides in various parts of the country.

The Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) on Tuesday said it would provide cash and relief materials worth Rs10.1 million to the flood and landslides victims. It has formed a 23-member Disaster Relief Cell led by Vice-President Rajendra Malla. 

The NCC has also announced it will work to provide jobs to the flood victims. The NCC has urged people who want to help by making cash donations to deposit their contribution into its account number 0101010006123 at Global IME Bank, Kantipath. 

Likewise, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) has said it will be providing materials worth Rs5 million to the people affected by floods and landslides. It has set up a relief fund to provide essentials like food, medicines and other relief materials in coordination with the Prime Minister’s Office and the Home and Commerce ministries. 

The CNI has also formed a taskforce to launch a fund collection drive. It has asked donors to deposit their cash donations into the account number 5444304011524002 at NIC Asia Bank. 

Hotel Association Nepal (Han) has announced a donation of Rs500,000 for the flood victims. It has also started a hotline service for visitors trapped by floods in Chitwan, Morang, Banke, Bardia, Sunsari and Rupandehi districts. Han has urged those requiring help to call mobile numbers 9851031495 or 9851191827. 

Likewise, the National Cooperative Federation of Nepal on Tuesday announced a cash donation of Rs2.5 million. 

The umbrella association of cooperatives has also urged the more than 33,000 cooperatives spread across the country to support the campaign. 

The federation has requested donors to deposit money into its account number 13-00024-29 at National Cooperative Bank, Baneshwor or account number 14200-34351-10 at Rastriya Banijya Bank, New Baneshwor. 

Similarly, the Federation of Nepalese Cottage and Small Industries (FNCSI) said it had mobilised its district and regional wings to participate in rescue and relief distribution operations in the flood affected areas. 

The FNCSI has urged the concerned authorities to make immediate arrangements for the rehabilitation of the flood victims who lost their homes in the disaster. The umbrella organisation of cottage and small industries has also urged authorities to reopen blocked roads to ensure smooth supply of essentials.
