Organising a press meet at his office in Kathmandu on Friday, Home Minister Sharma informed that the government will provide Rs 70 everyday for a month to each of the flood survivors through the concerned chief district officers. He added that the CDOs will soon distribute the relief to the flood affected people. Sharma, however, didn’t elaborate on how many people would get the relief.
Likewise, Home Minister Sharma also said that the government will immediately strive to rebuild the public, and private physical infrastructure damaged by the floods. Saying that the state doesn’t have enough fund to provide relief to the flood affected people, Minister Sharma said that the government has appealed to the international community for assistance.
Though the government has decided to accept foreign assistance, the collection of fund in bank account for relief distribution by private sector has been banned. Minister Sharma made it clear that the private sector can raise the fund only after taking approval from the government.
Saying that there are shortages of foods in flood affected region, Minister Sharma said that the Food Corporation will open depots in the flood-hit area.
The floods and landslides triggered by incessant rainfall for nearly a week affected around 30 districts, killing over 100 people and displacing thousands.
