A police team deployed from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, Teku, arrested Sudama Lamichhane, 30, of Kakani Rural Municipality-2, Nuwakot for his involvement in the murder of Parbati Dhakal, 55, of Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5, Rasuwa.
Dahakal was staying at her daughter Gita Dhakal’s house in Tailung of Budhanilkantha-1, Kathmandu, when the incident occurred.
Police said that Sudama hammered Parbati to death and decamped with gold ornaments on July 27.
Police swung into action after they found the body of Parbati the next day.
It has been learnt that Sudama had sold the robbed ornaments at Rs 115,000 in Nursary Chok-based Deepjyoti Jewellery Shop of Banasthali and went to Kapilvastu to evade the arrest.
Police said that they rounded up Sudama while was he was heading towards India.
According to a preliminary investigation, Sudama, who had worked at Gita’s house for one week and left the job after taking Rs 1,000, had asked money with Parbati to make a passport.
After Parbati denied giving him the money, he along with his friend made a plan to rob Gita’s house.
The same day, he went to Gita’s house and hammered Parbati to death and made off with various gold ornaments kept inside a cupboard.
Police said that they have confiscated 23.43 gram of gold and IRs 29,000 from Sudama’s possession.
He has been sent to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Maharajgunj, for investigation.
Meanwhile, police have arrested three persons including the owner of jewellery shop for selling and buying gold ornaments without proper paper.
Sudama had already served eight years in jail on the charge of raping a woman in 2006.
