Acharya panel dominates FNJ board
The Govinda Acharya-led alliance of democratic and progressive journalists has swept most of the positions in the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) during its 25th National Convention which concluded on Monday.The Govinda Acharya-led alliance of democratic and progressive journalists has swept most of the positions in the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) during its 25th National Convention which concluded on Monday.
Acharya garnered 732 votes to win the top post at the journalists’ apex body. His closest rival Tirtha Koirala received 627 votes. Bipul Pokhrel has been elected vice-chairman from the open category and Dilip Thapa Magar as inclusive vice-chairperson, with Ramesh Bista being elected new general secretary of the federation. Ram Prasad Dahal has been elected as secretary (from open category), Laxmi Pun (from women category), Uday GM (Janajati), Shital Mahato (Madhes), Rem Bishwokarma (Dalit).
Similarly Rajesh Mishra of Kantipur daily has been elected as treasurer. Tika Ram Pradhan of The Kathmandu Post and Yam Birahi of Annapurna Post have been elected as central members from the corporate category.
A total of 47 members, including 11 office bearers, have been elected from the convention. Out of 36 central members, Press Chautari has won eight seats. Out of the total 1,508 registered voters, 1,449 cast their ballot in the election held on Sunday. More than 10,000 journalists are associated with the federation.
