A meeting of the party office bearers on Tuesday agreed to initiate action against the lawmakers for going against the party whip. The RPP had issued a whip to its lawmakers, asking them to stand against the amendment bill that failed to get through the House.
While those 18 lawmakers have now joined the Pashupati Shumsher Rana-led RPP (Prajatantrik), the RPP leaders insist that the party’s strength in the House remains 37 as “it has not formally split”. The 19 lawmakers who are with Kamal Thapa-led RPP voted against the amendment.
The meeting also decided to seek a legal remedy in the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Monday, giving a legal recognition to its breakaway faction-led by Rana.
