Initially, authorities had said two rhinos were swept away by the flooded river. However, two more were found stranded on the Indian side later. The rhinos were spotted in Bagaha and Balmiki Nagar.
Nurendra Aryal, information officer at the CNP, said they faced difficulties in rescuing the endangered animals as they were carried a long distance away from their habitat. “We transported them to the CNP from around 150 kilometres afar,” said Aryal.
The Rapti flood swept away five CNP rhinos in total. Officials said one of the rhinos had reached Nawalparasi. A team of more than 40 people had used three elephants in the rescue mission.
The CNP had coordinated with Indian security officials for rescuing the animals.
