Thapathali-based Norvic Hospital remained tense on Tuesday following the death of an infant during the course of treatment.

Irate kin and the locals vandalised the hospital blaming it’s negligence for the death of 16-month-old child Victoria Acharya from Dailekh.

The hospital’s doors, windows and some computers were vandalised by the irate relatives and locals. The hospital has been cordoned off by the security personnel following the demonstration.

She was admitted to the hospital on Thursday after minor fever but was abruptly declared dead this afternoon, said her father Dr Ramesh.

“A team of doctors inserted a larger tube in her lungs, causing excessive bleeding,” said Dr Ramesh. “After the bleeding did not stop, we asked the doctors for permission to take her to Kanti Hospital, but the doctors refused,” he said.

The hospital has not furnished clarification yet, the deceased’s families said.

After the child’s death, Dr Binita Joshi and Dr Ritu Lamichhane have not come in contact with the families.

The irate family said that they would intensify the protest if the hospital did not furnish a logical reason. They have demanded the government take legal action against the hospital. “Otherwise, we will start a protest,” said Bhupendra Chapain, the child’s grandfather.

The hospital has not conceded its mistake for the child’s death. The hospital administration refused to speak on the issue.
