CEC warns against poll code violation

The last leg of local elections is scheduled for September 18 in Province 2 which was hugely affected by floods in the second week of August.
Speaking at an orientation programme for chief election monitors in the Capital, CEC Yadav urged the officials to be vigilant to ensure that all the parties and political leaders comply with the poll code of conduct.
CEC Yadav’s statement on Friday follows reports from the flood-affected districts that CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman was distributing relief materials to the flood-affected people.
The election code of conduct for Province 2 local elections came into force on August 17. Nomination filing date for the September 18 local polls has been set for September 6.
Election Commissioner Sudhir Kumar Shah said the EC expected the monitors to perform their duties responsibly and efficiently in line with the authority vested in them by law.
As per the Election Commission Act, the poll body can slap fine up to Rs 100,000 for violating the election code of conduct.
