Locals of Susta, a village located at the Nepal-India border in Nawalparasi district, have vented ire over the delay in construction of a suspension bridge.Locals of Susta, a village located at the Nepal-India border in Nawalparasi district, have vented ire over the delay in construction of a suspension bridge. They said that the contractor firm, KV and Pashupati Construction Company, had not even started the project after winning the contract two years ago.
The company was commissioned to build a suspension bridge over the Narayani river to connect Paklihawa and Susta in three years with the budget of Rs 228 million.
Two years have passed and the construction company has not even broken the ground.
The bridge is supposed to be completed by October 2018, but the only thing the contractor firm has done so far is purchase 10-quintal iron rod, six iron sheets and an old generator, said lawmaker Devkaran Jaiswal.
Uma Giri, a local man, said the villagers from both Susta and Paklihawa had been crossing the Narayani river on boats in absence of bridge.
He added that the representatives of the contractor firm had not showed up in a long time.
