Special security arrangement for Ktm Valley

Sep 19, 2017-Over 6,000 police personnel will be deployed inside Kathmandu Valley as part of the security arrangement for the upcoming festivals of Dashain, Tihar and Chhath.

The festival security plan will come into effect from Thursday. The Nepal Police will coordinate with the Armed Police Force while patrolling  the areas identified as possible crime hotspots, marketplaces, highway checkpoints and places that have high mobility of people, said Senior Superintendent of Police Purna Chandra Joshi, spokesperson of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Commissioner’s Office (MPCO). 

Similarly, around 1,000 officers will be deployed throughout the Valley to manage traffic and enforce driving regulations.

SSP Joshi said temples, including Pashupatinath, Naksal Bhagwati, Maitidevi, Guheswori and Bhadrakali, will see high deployment of security personnel from early morning. Police officers will also be deployed at goat markets in Kalanki, Thapathali, Bagbazar, Bhrikutimandap, Gaushala, Koteshwor, Gongabu, Teku, Tripureshwor and Maharajung, among others.

While a large number of people leave for their homes outside Valley for the festivals, police will monitor the ticket counters and bus stations to enusre that passengers are not fleeced by transport operators.

Similarly, the Metropolitan Police Range, Teku, has issued 21-point public notice urging people to keep a strict log of their tenants.

The Range said that it will help them investigate any criminal activities that might arise during the Dashain festival.

SSP Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk, chief of the range, urged people to call police in their area if they see suspicious people in their neighbourhood.
