Public health authority in Saptari says more than 100 people have contracted diarrhoea-like disease in the last two weeks
Oct 9, 2017-Outbreak of diarrhoea-like disease in the flood-affected Sakarapur settlement in Tilathi Koiladi Rural Municipality-3, Saptari, has not come under control in over two weeks.
More than 100 people in the settlement have contracted the disease so far, and officials now suspect that they might have contracted cholera.
Fifty seriously ill villagers received treatment at a health camp organised by the District Public Health Office on Sunday. Five others are undergoing treatment in Rajbiraj and Biratnagar.
Health officials suspect that the disease may have spread due to open defecation practice and water contamination caused by August flood.
Gyan Bahadur Shrestha, chief of the DPHO, said a team of Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD) had collected stool and water samples for laboratory test on Sunday.
The test results is expected to come out after two days
