EC fixes expenditure cap for upcoming polls

  • Federal poll FPTP candidates can spend up to Rs 2.5m, PR candidates allowed to spend Rs200k
  • Provincial poll FPTP candidates can spend up to Rs 1.5m, PR candidates allowed to spend Rs150k

The Election Commission (EC) on Friday set an expenditure cap of Rs 2.5 million and Rs 1.5 million for each candidate contesting federal parliamentary and provincial elections respectively under the first-past-the-post system.

The proposed ceiling for FPTP is 150 percent higher than what the election body had set for candidates contesting the second Constituent Assembly (CA) elections in 2013. 

Likewise, Rs 200,000 and Rs 150,000 have been set as the expenditure cap for each candidate contesting both polls under Proportional Representation system.
