The newly appointed ministers in the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led Cabinet are set to take the oath of office and secrecy at the President’s Office in Sheetal Niwas on Saturday evening.

Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki informed that newly inducted ministers from Rastriya Prajatantra Party will be administered the oath from President Bidya Devi Bhandari at 7 pm today.

A team of Election Commission led by Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav reached the President’s office this afternoon to discuss the cabinet expansion.

After EC team told the President that the cabinet expansion would not affect the polls, the President became ready to conduct the oath taking ceremony.

“EC officials told the President that although the cabinet expansion is against the code of conduct, it does not affect the polls,” said Sushil Pyakurel, political advisor to President. “They termed the cabinet expansion a moral issue in regards to EC code of conduct.”

PM Deuba expanded his Cabinet on Friday by appointing RPP Chairman Kamal Thapa as Deputy Prime Minister. He added three more ministers and four additional state ministers from the RPP.
