WOMEX, hailed by UNESCO as the most important international professional market in world music, brings together professional musicians from a variety of music genres from around the world. The Expo will also feature a trade fair, talks, and films.
This is the first time a Nepali band is performing at the fest.
“With a record number of showcase proposals and only a mere three dozen slots, this is an accomplishment to be proud of for a band from Nepal. But this has more to do with promoting and spreading Nepali music to the world more than just a personal accomplishment,” the band-members said in a statement.
Night has been in the Nepali music scene for the past decade. The band has been lauded for creating refreshing new sounds that retraces their roots, while infusing them with simple yet powerful lyrics to great effect. Night has two albums to their credit— Ani Ukali Sangai Orali (2014) and Jhalka Raya Buka (2017). Night comprises of musicians Jason Kunwar, Niraj Shakya, Mina Singh, Birat Basnet, Sudhir Acharya, and Shiva Kumar Khatri.
After performing at WOMEX (Oct 25-29), the band will travel to Germany for weeklong musical tour.
