Student-artists on display at NAC
An exhibition titled Art Ensemble, featuring works by the fine arts students at Tribhuwan University, is currently ongoing at the Nepal Art Council, in Babarmahal.An exhibition titled Art Ensemble, featuring works by the fine arts students at Tribhuwan University, is currently ongoing at the Nepal Art Council, in Babarmahal. The exibhition features 70 works in total that tackle various contemporary issues through the medium of canvas, printmaking, video, digital art and installation pieces.
“These artists have made a powerful entrance into Nepali art. They, through their work, have showcased an acute perception of the subject matter, social recognition and its contemporary relevance. The exhibition features works by up-and-coming artsits which are also very influential,” artist and critic Ramesh Khanal said speaking at the opening of the show.
Meanwhile, speaking at the event, critic Saroj Bajracharya pointed out the need to have interactive events, where artists could share their inspiration and motifs of their work with the viewers.
“The works at the exhibition announce the entrance of powerful new artists into the Nepali art scape,” said member of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts, Sushma Rajbhandhari, at the opening. “These artists boast enough promise to upgrade the level of Nepali fine arts scene.”
Former minister Gagan Thapa, who inaugurated the show, emphasised that the government should pay attention towards fostering art because it binds the country as a whole.
The exhibit features works by artists such as Anil Maharjan, Bhuphan Limbu, Bikash Shrestha, Bikku Kumar Thapa, Dipanjali Rajbhandari Pradhan, and Dhurba Raj Sharma, among others.
The exhibition will continue till October 19.
