A team deployed from the Area Police Office, Simara, fired warning shots into the air to raid a gambling a den at 2am today.
"Police had to fire into the air after the locals picketed the police personnel who had gone to Bakuliya to control arrest the gamblers. Police had gone there acting on a tip-off," according to DSP Bhubaneshwor Sah of the District Police Office, Bara.
Sah said that the gamblers from other villages surrounded the police as they tried to arrest the gamblers at Bakuliya, and the police had to fire into the air to take the situation under control.
It has been learnt that a clash had also ensued between the gamblers and the police.
A policeman and some locals sustained minor injuries in the clash, police said.
Police have arrested one Shankar Chaudhary of Bakuliya, Jitpursimara Sub-Metropolitan City and also confiscated Rs 15,000 in cash from his possession.
