First phase polls: 205 candidates file nominations for 37 Federal Parliament seats
Candidates representing various political parties on Sunday filed nominations for the first phase elections to Federal Parliament and Provincial Assemblies in 32 districts. "The nomination process continued until late as it was necessary to register those who showed up within 5 pm," said Election Commission (EC) Spokesperson Nawaraj Dhaka.
According to the lastest information received by EC, 205 candidates have filed nominations to contest for 37 seats of Federal Parliament and 313 candidates have filed nominations for 74 seats of Provincial Assemblies. Dhakal added that the EC was yet to receive further details on the nominations.
Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav, in a press meet organised at the EC office, informed that the candidacy registration process remained largely enthusiastic.
He said the Election Code of Conduct has come into effect with the completion of nomination filing process.
The first phase of election is taking place in 32 districts on November 26 and the second phase is slated for December 7 in the remaining 45 districts on December 7.
