Speaking at a joint press meet in Kathmandu on Thursday, the leaders said that the process to convening provincial and federal elections slated for November 26 and December 7 has already been moved ahead and hence urged everyone not to smell rat over timely elections.
“It is the common responsibility of Nepal government, Election Commission, political parties and public to ensure free and fair conduction of elections in the mentioned time frame,” read a statement issued after the joint press meet, “There should not be any doubt over the timely conduction of elections at a time when candidates are busy preparing for the elections.”
Chairmen of both the parties said that if elections get hampered, it will be a grave threat to democracy.
The two major forces recently got united in the form of left alliance.
The parties also urged all and all not to indulge in unnecessary debate regarding ballot papers for the elections.
EC has already started printing ballot papers. The format of ballot paper does not compromise with the constitutional, legal, fundamental and citizen rights of public,” read the statement, “The voters can elect their desired leaders and their rights to privacy will not be hampered.”
The parties stressed that all the elections should be completed on time and the Parliament should be formed by January 21.
“Postponing upcoming elections under any pretext will be a threat to the democratic practice. It will be harmful to Nepal and Nepali people,” read the statement.
The parties requested everyone concerned to refrain from doing anything that would have adverse effect on the elections and create the environment of suspicion among public.
Oli, Dahal, UML senior leader Jhalanath Khanal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Maoist Centre leaders Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Krishna Bahadur Mahara, Barshaman Pun and Pampha Bhusal, among others were present in the press meet.
