KMC ward secy arrested for recommending citizenship to Chinese man
Police have arrested Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) ward 11 secretary Ram Prasad Poudel on charge of recommending citizenship to a Chinese man.Police have arrested Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) ward 11 secretary Ram Prasad Poudel on charge of recommending citizenship to a Chinese man.
Chinese citizen Kunga Tenzing Bhutiya acquired Nepali citizenship by birth in the name of Tenzing Lama from Kathmandu District Administration Office. Kunga has acquired Nepali passport as well.
Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested Kunga, Poudel and Karma Dhindup Ghale in connection with the incident. Dhindup had helped Poudel make the citizenship.
Kunga is a garment businessman in Nepal.
CIB Chief Pushkar Karki said that Poudel and Ghale took a hefty sum from Kunga to help him acquire Nepali citizenship.
It is learnt the former ward secretary Yuvraj Khanal had registered the birth of Kunga as citizen of Nepal.
CIB is now looking for Khanal who is out of contact.
“Police have sought cooperation from Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, to find Khanal,” an official at the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, said, “But Khanal has not come to the office.”
Ghale is learnt to have assisting people with Tibetan origin to acquire Nepali citizenship and passport.
