Constitution will be amended in favour of Madhes if NC wins: PM Deuba

Addressing a programme organised in Janakpur of Dhanusha district on Wednesday, PM Deuba said: “Nepali Congress is committed to amend the constitution in support of Madhesi people,” adding, “But Nepali Congress needs a two-thirds majority for the same.”
The Prime Minister accepted that there are some weaknesses in the constitution. "Mades still has poverty. Madhesi people have not been able to properly exercise their constitution rights. All these problems will be sorted out only through the amendment of the constitution,” he said.
Terming Janakpur as cultural and religious heritage site, Deuba said that the relationship between Nepal and India has further strengthened becasue of Janakpur. He was referring to the historical marriage of Lord Ram of India and Sita of Nepal.
Dubbing the communist parties as the party against religion, he said NC is the party that believes in religion. The Prime Minister said, “We all respect the religion. We don’t view religion as opium like communists do.”
