Nepal had started their campaign with a 2-0 loss to Kygyzstan before losing 4-0 to Bahrain and 1-0 to United Arab Emirates (UAE) in the five-team group. After conceding 12 goals and scoring none, Nepali youth team’s campaign ended at the bottom of the table. The team led by coach Chhiring Lopsang Gurung conceded three goals in the first half and two in the second half against Oman. Skipper Al-Harthi and Arshad Said Al-Alawi struck a brace each with substitute Thamir Al-Zaabi scoring the another.
The one-sided affair saw skipper Al-Harthi open the scoring in the 11th minute before Al-Alawi doubled the advantage in the 32nd. Oman went into the break with a 3-0 lead after Al-Harthi netted his second goal in the stoppage time of first half through freekick. Substitute Al-Zaabi netted fourth goal in the 58th minute before Al-Alawi completed the comprehensive victory a minute later.
Already qualified the UAE, who lost 1-0 to Bahrain in the late match, finished at the top of the table with nine points. Oman, with seven points, ended up second and could still qualify as one of the five best runners up for the finals to be played next year in Indonesia. The Qualifiers send all 10 group winners and best five runners-up to the finals along with the hosts.
