The meeting scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in New Delhi of India to give final shape to the bilateral coordination achieved till the fifth meeting of EPG has been postponed at the last minute on the request of India.
It is learnt that the EPG is working to give final shape to the suggestions to be given to the government of both countries.
The date for the next meeting has not been finalised yet.
Jayanta Prasad, a member from Indian side, did not attend the earlier meeting due to ailment.
According to a diplomatic source, the meeting was postponed citing Jayanta Prasad’s poor health.
Officials suspect that the meeting might have been postponed in view of the parliamentary and provincial elections to be held in Nepal on November 26 and December 7.
Bhekh Bahadur Thapa, who coordinates the EPG from Nepali side, said that the meeting had to be postponed for some weeks due to busy schedule of the participants and due to the elections in Nepal.
The EPG was formed with four members each from both the countries with a view to reviewing the entire gamut of bilateral ties including the 1950 Nepal-India Friendship Treaty, often called the 1950 Treaty.
