In a discussion with office bearers of business and commerce fraternity regarding the election preparations and election code of conduct at Election Commission (EC) office in Kathmandu on Friday, CEC Yadav urged Nepal Rastra Bank, Anti-Money Laundering Department and Inland Revenue Department to monitor the abnormal election expenditure of election candidates and parties.
“There are complaints that parties and candidates are incurring expenses beyond the campaign expenses limit set by the election body and it is a matter of concern to think of ways to curb them. It is the responsibility of government body to find the sources of expenditure and whether the source is taxable,” he added.
He stressed on the need to discourage the mindset of candidates that they can win the elections with the financial backing instead of the ideology and election manifesto.
