The workshop kicked off on Wednesday.
Typography is the art of working with letters to style and arrange fonts and make them appealing.
Organised by Sattya Media Arts Collective, the workshop is facilitated by Sebastian Esche from Germany, who works full time as Senior Graphic Designer for Adidas—the world-renowned sports brand. Esche is currently on a one-year sabbatical, travelling the world, making videos and working on freelance projects.
“The aim of the workshop is to provide a better understanding of what ‘typography’ actually is, how it works and why it is important to ‘do it right’,” said the organisers who also work to create a community where artists and designers can thrive. “The workshop is primarily targeted for those with little to no former experience in type design.”
On days one and two, Esche put light on why typography is important alongside the history of hand lettering. The participants were also introduced to western typography and the technique of hand lettering. The workshops concluded with films Helvetica and Sign Painters.
The final day taps into Asian Typography and encourages the participants to create their own typeface, wording, monogram, or font.
The workshop concludes today.
