22 cadres of Chand-led CPN Maoist arrested

Amidst escalating incidents of attacks on election candidates, police have arrested 22 cadres of Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN Maoist from different districts of Province-4.

According to SP Basanta Bahadur Kunwari, spokesperson at Province-4 police office, 13 cadres have been arrested from Kaski, seven from Gorkha and two from Myagdi. He added that public offence case has been filed against them.

“Security personnel have been closely monitoring the activities of CPN Maoist cadres,” he said, adding, “We will not spare anyone involved in anti-election activities.”

Earlier on November 10, a group of unidentified persons hurled improvised explosive devices (IEDs) at the vehicle of CPN (Maoist Centre) federal parliamentary election candidate and minister without portfolio Janardan Sharma at Goiri in Chaurjahari Municipality-8 in Rukum.

Similarly on November 11, former Finance Minister and left alliance candidate for Rolpa Constituency 1 Barsha Man Pun's vehicle was ambushed at Sukudaha in Rolpa district.

Likewise, an unidentified group hurled a bomb at the vehicle of CPN-UML leader and former Communication Minister Sher Dhan Rai in Bhojpur district today. Police suspect that CPN Maoist cadres are involved in all the incidents.
