Candidate’s son held for anti-poll activities in Rolpa
Nov 20, 2017-The son of CPN (Maoist Centre) Kathmandu-6 electoral candidate, Jhakku Subedi, has been arrested by Rolpa police on the suspicion of carrying out anti-election activities.
Santosh Subedi, who is also the Rolpa district secretary of the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN), was arrested from Mijhing area on November 8.
Chief District Officer Dijan Bhattarai confirmed the arrest of Santosh, among other CPN cadres, and said they had instruction to detain anyone who could compromise the poll security plan.
A human rights team from Kathmandu visited Santosh in custody where he claimed that the government arrested them while carrying out peaceful political activities.
“We have been framed by the government and political parties,” he told the team.
Santosh also said that his father had not contacted him.
A former Maoist Centre member, Santosh had defected to the CPN just a month ago.
5 CPN cadres detained
ROLPA: Police arrested five CPN activists from Subarnabasti Rural Municipality on Sunday. Himlal Pun, Dhan Bahadur Thapa, Bir Bahadur Oli, Minram Bista and Khadka Bahadur KC were arrested for their involvement in anti-election activities, said police. DSP Gyanendra Prasad Phuyal said the security team also seized seven grenades and other explosives hidden in a house. Similarly, Nuwakot police arrested CPN district committee member Ananta Dhital from Dupcheshwor-6. (PR)
