Violent activities go unabated

Nov 20, 2017-As the first phase of the federal and provincial elections gets close, improvised explosive devices were defused at various places on Sunday. An unidentified group also attacked a candidate in Dhading district.

An IED was planted on the District Election Office promises in Dhading early Sunday morning. The explosive was kept in the rented building of the election office at around 4am.

Landlady Janaki Dhakal came to know that someone left the suspicious object as she heard dogs barking. Employees at the office informed the police about the explosive after Dhakal showed it to them. A Nepal Army team from Gajuri defused the IED later.

Another IED was hurled targeting a vehicle of CPN-UML candidate Bhumi Tripathi in Thakre-5, Dhading.

UML district committee member Ram Kumar Acharya said the miscreants attacked Tripathi, who was heading to Bahundanda to address a rally. There were no casualties, said police.

In Baglung, an IED was found at a house of Tika Kaucha, a recently elected ward member of Badigadh-5, on Sunday morning. Family members informed the police immediately about the explosives. An Army team defused the IED.

Our correspondent in Panchthar said an unidentified group planted an explosive device at Chature near Jorpokhari on Sunday.
