The landslide victims in Dundephant of Kaski say they shall vote for the candidate who would help them resettle and take initiative to control water-induced disasters in the area.

On 29 July 2015, a devastating landslide in the area had killed eleven people and injured 18 others.

Many landslide-displaced families are yet to receive government aid for resettlement.

“We have one demand that is controlling landslides in the area. Our votes shall go to the candidate who assures to address our concern,” said Tanka Prasad Parajuli, a local. ‘He added that the villagers would not vote if the candidates fail to convince them. A large amount of budget is needed to control landslides and tame the local Harpan stream to protect the settlement, which is just 15 15 km west of Pokhara city.

According to locals, 19 homes in the settlement are still at high risk of landslide, but the authorities have done nothing to prevent the imminent disaster. 

“We have not received anything other than the relief that was distributed in the wake of the landslide. No one has said anything about resettlement or disaster prevention,” said Yam Kumari Subedi, another local. “During rainy season, we have live in constant fear. We want the election candidates to take our issue seriously.”

People who were injured in the landslide claimed that they  were unable to get treatment due to financial problem. “My right leg was fractured and I cannot walk well till this day, ” said Shanti Parajuli. She needs to undergo a surgery, but says she cannot afford to pay the hospital bills.
