At a programme held for the announcement, Shambhujit Banskota, vice-chancellor at NAMUDA, said that the new system was announced to honour the contributions made by artists in Nepali music and drama to the country’s culture.
According to Banskota, the identity card will be provided to the artists on the basis of their experience and expertise in the field; the identity card will be divided under three categories—Renowned Class, Senior Class and General Class.
“The identity cards once they come into function will help to identify the artists, to honour their contribution and also to create a database in the Academy,” said Banskota.
Speaking at the event, eminent lyricist Ratna Shumsher Thapa said that the recent announcement will be in favour of the artists. “This is a good step on the Academy’s part. It will not only identify artists but will also make them feel honoured by the state,” he said.
