A powerful bomb exploded targeting Nepali congress (NC) candidates at Jhirubhangyang in Nawalparasi on Saturday. No casualties have been reported so far.
The bomb was detonated targeting a vehicle carrying NC parliamentary candidate of Nawalparasi constituency-2 Bishnu Karki and provincial candidate Bishnu Lamichhane at around 9 pm today.
They had gone to the village for election campaign.
The incident site is three km west from the Area Police Office, Rudrapurgadhi.
SP Dipendra GC of eastern Nawalparasi informed that a police team has already been deployed at the incident site.
According to NC district president and provincial candidate Bishnu Lamichhane, the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated to terrorise the voters.
Following the incident, Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) cadres have suddenly gone underground.
Leaders and cadres of CPN in Rukum, Rolpa and Pyuthan have deactivated their Facebook account and also switched off their mobile phones.
It has been suspected that the cadres of CPN are behind the explosion.
Meanwhile, security agencies have barred NC General Secretary and candidate of eastern Nawalparasi constituency-1 Shashanka Koirala from travelling hilly areas on vehicle due to security reason.
In the wake of bomb explosion targeting election candidates in various parts of the country, the security agencies have urged Koirala to not travel the hilly areas on the vehicle.
Following the suggestion from security agencies, the NC has said that Koirala will be travelling to Dedgaun, Kotthat and Bunglingtar on a helicopter for election campaign.
