EC seeks clarification from CPN-UML, five nat’l dailies for poll code violation

According to the Election Commission, the act violates election code of conduct and hence sought clarification from the party within 24 hours.
The party published advertisements in Kantipur Daily, Annapurna Post Daily, Naya Patrika Daily, Nagarik Daily and Rajdhani Daily, among other dailies, canvassing votes in favour of the party for the upcoming second phase of federal parliamentary and provincial assembly elections slated for December 7.
The EC has stated that the advertisements were in contradiction to Section 5 of Election Code of Conduct, 2072.
Meanwhile, the EC has also asked the aforementioned five national dailies to furnish clarification asking them on whether or not to take action against them for printing advertisements of UML within 24 hours.
According to the Election Code of Conduct 2074, political parties can display a maximum of 7-inch by 7-inch ad in one newspaper each day.
