The assailants targeted the election officials and security personnel as they were ferrying the ballot boxes containing votes of the federal parliamentary and provincial assembly elections held on Sunday.
In Bhojpur, an IED exploded at Shadananda Municipality while the ballot boxes were being ferried to Bhojpur headquarters on Monday. The device went off at Nyaule forest in the northern part of the district.
There were no casualties and all the ballot boxes are safe, said DSP Dipendra Panjiyar Tharu, adding that an investigation has been launched into the incident.
In Jajarkot, assailants detonated an IED at Ralekhola in Kushe Rural Municipality-1 on Monday morning while the ballot boxes were being ferried to the district headquarters. In another incident, group detonated IED targeting a team of election officials and the security personnel that ferried ballot boxes in Churjahari-6 in Rukum on Sunday evening.
3 held for shooting at policemen
DHANUSHA: Police on Monday arrested three persons on the charge of shooting at security personnel in Siraha. Shiva Kumar Raya, 32, Manoj Yadav, 28, and Surendra Kumar Raya, 18, were held with a pistol from Dhanusha Shahid Municipality in the district. The suspects are the local residents of Dhanusha Shahid. Constable Mayaram Yadav and Myadi (temporary) police Adarsha Yadav sustained serious bullet injuries when an unidentified group opened fire at them during a security check at Niradana in Siraha district on Sunday.
