A team of Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Wednesday arrested an engineer of Irrigation Development Division Office Kaski with Rs 50,000 bribe.

The team from regional CIAA office held Er Govinda Bhurtel on charge of taking bribe for issuing a work experience letter to a construction company. Birauta-based CM Perfect JV Construction had build 1700-meter long Takanja Tar irrigation project at Rupa Rural Municipality. The project was completed in July with a total cost of Rs 15 million.

After the completion of the project, the company had submitted an application at the office seeking an experience letter of construction. But Bhurtel had been demanding money for issuing the experience letter.

Apparently seek and tired of Bhurtel’s bargaining, the construction workers informed the CIAA and went to Irrigation Office and handed over the money to Burtel on Wednesday. The bribe money was recovered from Bhurtel’s residence, CIAA regional office Pokhara spokesperson Ramesh Dhakal said.
