Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has claimed that the results of fast-past-the-post (FPTP) elections will be announced within a week.

Speaking at an interaction organised in Reporters’ Club in the Capital on Tuesday, Yadav said that the Election Commission (EC) is preparing logistics and human resources to announce the FPTP results within a week.

He said that the election officers have been instructed to install CCTV cameras in vote counting centres to check any untoward incidents.

“Vote counting should be done at the earliest. Therefore, we have issued orders from centre to all the vote counting centres,” said Yadav.

He further said that the election officers are on standby to safely deliver ballot boxes to respective centres after the completion of second phase of federal parliamentary and provincial assembly elections slated for Thursday. The first phase of elections was held on November 26.

Morevoer, CEC Yadav warned of stern action against those involved in violating the election code of conduct during the silence period.

“If there are violations of the election code of conduct, EC will ask for clarification depending on the situation instead of direct action,” said Yadav.

CEC Yadav claimed that there will be 70 percent voter turnout in the second phase polls unlike first phase where 65 percent votes were cast due to remote geographical situation.
