Following reports of hundreds of Nepali migrant workers stranded in a deplorable condition, without money, work and stay-permit in Kuwait, the government on Wednesday instructed the concerned agencies to step up their rescue process.  

A joint meeting of officials from the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoLE), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the Department of Foreign Employment (DoFE), and the Foreign Employment Promotion Board (FEPB) held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OMPCM) directed the concerned agencies to rescue the stranded citizens at the earliest.

The meeting also directed the MoFA to find out the exact number of citizens languishing in the Gulf state and get their personal details and enquire about their condition, including the validity of their visas and fines they might have incurred for overstaying their visas.

 Nearly 30o Nepali citizens, who had gone to Kuwait for employment, are said to be stranded there without jobs and money to return home.

However, only 94 people have contacted the Nepali Embassy so far. Most of them were employed by Kharafi National, a construction company.

The Wednesday’s meeting also directed the DoFE to coordinate with the concerned recruiting agencies to rescue the migrant workers.

SOS Manpower Pvt Ltd, Lotus Human Resourse Pvt Ltd, Gulf Manpower Services Pvt Ltd, Pas International and Al-Karim Overseas are among the recuriting agencies that had sent these workers to Kuwait.

Meanwhile, the MoFA has instructed the Nepali Embassy in Kuwait to look after the food, accommodation and medical needs of the stranded citizens.
