Stalled counting resumes in Sunsari-3

- Post Report, Kathmandu

Dec 12, 2017-

Counting of votes resumed on Tuesday in Sunsari-3 where Nepali Congress (NC) leader Bijya Kumar Gachadar and CPN-UML candidate Bhagwati Chaudhary are in the fray.

The counting was stalled in the constituency on Monday after a currency note and a counterfoil of the ballot were found during counting.

The counting venue in the district coordination committee hall became tense after the representatives of NC candidate and CPN-UML candidate accused each other of trying to rig votes.

Chaudary was leading the race with 29,326 votes against Gachhadar’s 29,171, a lead by just 155 votes, when the counting stalled. Election Office said 21,000 votes are yet to be counted.

The EC has hoped that the final result of the constituency will be made public by Tuesday night if no obstacles arise.
