Dec 13, 2017-
A man has been arrested for his alleged involvement in defrauding two persons of Rs 2.1 million using social networking site Facebook.
A police team deployed from Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) detained Tul Bahadur Tamang, 33, of Mankha-7, Sindhupalchok, temporarily residing at Chyamasingh, Bhaktapur.
Police said that Tamang befriended Mankala Gurung of Makal Rural Municipality-5 of Sankhuwasabha via Facebook and tied a conjugal knot with her. Later, he swindled Rajesh Gurung and Kailash Gurung, relatives of Mankala, of Rs 2.1 million on the pretext of providing jobs in US army.
According to a preliminary investigation, Tul Bahadur called the duo to Kathmandu for the visa processing. He, however, went out of contact.
After they came to know that they were cheated, the duo filed a complaint at the MPCD. Based on the compliant, a police team deployed from the MPCD swung into action and arrested Tul Bahadur from Mankha of Sindhupalchok.
Earlier, he befriended Srijana Dong of Sindhupalchok, living in Lebnon, via Facebook and took Rs 9000,000 from her with a false promise of taking her to US on dependent visa.
He had also collected Rs 1.3 million from Sanjay Dong, Srijana’s brother, and Mim Lama on the pretext of sending them to Candana for lucrative jobs.
Likewise, he had also swindled Kusum Lama, living in Cyprus, of Rs 900,000 with the false promising of taking her to Canada.
Tul Bahadur had been arrested on the same charges earlier in 2016 and had spent some months behind bars. Later, he was released on bail.
After being released from the prison, he got back into his old business of defrauding, police said.
The MPCD on Sunday had sent him to the Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, for investigation.
