KTV goes High Definition from today
Dec 14, 2017-Kantipur Television (KTV) is starting its High Definition (HD) transmission from Thursday.
The country’s leading TV station, which has been catering to its viewers for the last 14 years, will broadcast all its quality contents—news, views, debates and a host of entertainment programmes—in High Definition, starting December 14, which will set a new landmark in the country’s television sector, KTV said in a statement on Wednesday.
“By adapting to the latest technological innovation to keep our viewers informed and entertained with quality contents, KTV wants to inform our audience that we are coming in a new avatar with our HD transmission,” read the statement.
KTV first went on-air on July 13, 2003, through terrestrial transmission. It soon upgraded to the satellite technology to expand its coverage which was earlier limited to Kathmandu Valley.
Over the years, KTV has played an important role of informing the public during historic political events of the country, including the second people’s movement of 2005-06, the peace process, Constituent Assembly elections, country’s journey from monarchy to federal democracy, the drafting of the new constitution and elections as well as natural disasters including the 2015 Gorkha Earthquake.
“Established during difficult political times in the country, KTV has always strived for responsible journalism to protect press freedom, democracy and peace, and uphold human rights,” the statement added.
“We have performed our duty of institutionalising democratic system through information, news and perspectives since our early days. Our professional journalism will continue in coming days as well, as it becomes even so more important for political stability and economic transformation of the country.”
