No alternative to merger between CPN-UML, Maoist Centre: Dahal
CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that preparations are being made to finalise the unification of his party with CPN-UML.CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that preparations are being made to finalise the unification of his party with CPN-UML.
Addressing a tea reception organised to congratulate the newly elected left alliance representatives of federal parliament and provincial assembly in Kathmandu-5 on Saturday, Dahal remarked that there was no alternative to merging the constituents of left alliance—CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN-UML—as agreed earlier.
“We formed the left alliance because we could not unify the parties before the elections. We have nearly received a two-thirds majority. Now we will finalise the unification process,” said Dahal.
Thanking all the leaders, cadres and voters of both the parties who played a crucial role in winning a majority of electoral constituencies across the country, Dahal hoped for such support in the future. He dubbed the landslide victory of left alliance as the fusion of CPN-UML and Maoist Centre and noted that it wouldn’t have been possible without each other’s support.
Dahal said the election result has made the parties realise the need to take responsibility for political stability, development and prosperity. “We have initiated a new process and got an opportunity to prepare the ground for a new era of prosperity and socialism. We won’t miss it,” said the Maoist chairman.
Saying that the recently held federal and provincial elections are the milestone for the implementation of the new constitution promulgated after a prolonged struggle, Dahal said the step was a historic incident for Nepal’s communist movement and political agitation.
In the federal parliament and provincial assembly elections held on November 26 and December 7, the left alliance has won 357 seats in total in both levels. The CPN-UML emerged victorious in 80 federal constituencies, while CPN (Maoist Centre) won 36 out of total 165 seats. In the same manner, the CPN-UML has swept 167 provincial assembly seats and CPN (Maoist Centre) won 74 seats. The Nepali Congress (NC) has won elections in 23 federal constituencies and 41 provincial constituencies.
