Cold wave affects life in west Tarai
Dec 17, 2017-
A spell of cold wave has crippled western Tarai for the past four days, adversely affecting normal life in the region.
Meanwhile, the weather pattern has also disrupted flights from Nepalgunj with airlines officials saying that they have been forced to cancel many flights due to bad weather conditions.
Thick layer of fog has affected Kathmandu and Karnali bound flights as a minimum of 2,000 metre visibility is required for flights to take off, informed Nepalgunj-based Civil Aviation Authority office.
Likewise, vehicles plying on the road are also facing hard time navigating through the thick fog during the morning hours.
Chief of Banke branch of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) Rita Mahato said temperatures have plummeted to 6.8 degree celsius adding that the department recorded 19.5 degree celsius temperature on Sunday afternoon.
Mahato further informed that dense fogs have started appearing in the sky lately, blocking the sun completely and thus increasing the cold.
Meanwhile, people are fighting the cold by making bonfire as the cold wave started in the western Tarai districts since the first week of December.
