Fire at Birgunj gas factory contained after nine hours

Firemen and security personnel managed to put out the massive fire at a gas factory in Sukhasaina, Birgunj, after nine hours on Wednesday.

Locals and security personnel from Nepal Police and Nepal Army doused the fire with the help of fire engines after nine hours of battling.

The fire that broke out at around 6 in the morning was contained at around 3 pm, police said.

Two firemen injured in Birgunj gas factory inferno airlifted to Kathmandu

Two persons lost their lives in their attempt to extinguish the fire while fire engine driver Arun Kumar Mahato and fire fighter Sanjiv Kumar Nepal were injured in the incident. They have been airlifted to Kathmandu on a Nepal Army helicopter for treatment.

The identities of the deceased are yet to be established.

According to a preliminary investigation, the fire could have broken out due to leakage in the gas tank, SP Ganesh Regmi said.
