President Bhandari made such appeal during a meeting with CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who reached President’s residence in Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday. “I cannot alter the constitutional and legal ways, so resolve the issue through discussion,” President’s aide Bhesraj Adhikari quoted her as telling at the meeting.
The meeting came at a time the left alliance, who won a landslide victory in the recently held parliamentary and provincial elections, and the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) are at logger heads over the ordinance pertaining to the elections of upper house.
Recalling the past trend of resolving the disputes through political, President advised that the political parties who fought together for democracy should hold discussion and resolve the issue through discussion. President Bhandari indicated that it would not be good for the constitutional institutions to come to controversy over authenticating the ordinance.
At the meeting, Oli and Dahal reportedly expressed dissatisfaction over the government move to bring the ordinance on National Assembly election against the constitution. The leaders said that they would now take initiatives on their own to resolve the issue saying that the government turned a blind eye towards the issue.
Earlier on Tuesday, the government has reiterated that the prime minister was waiting for the President to authenticate the ordinance on National Assembly election before he makes any significant move.
The left alliance has been calling on the government to clear the way for the formation of a new election in the wake of election result.
At the meeting, Dahal and Oli were accompanied by CPN-UML leader Subash Chandra Nembang and CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha.
