The Humla-based Nepal Food Corporation (NFC) depot has distributed subsidised rice to the families reeling under food shortage at the instruction of the newly elected members of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly.

The food-hit families were pleased with the initiative shown by their elected leaders.

Independent candidate Chhakka Bahadur Lama was elected to the House of Representatives from Humla while Dal Rawal of CPN-UML and Jiban Bahadur Shahi of Nepali Congress were elected the members of Provincial Assembly.

According to the NFC, the leaders had notified the NFC depot about the food insecure families in the district.

The NFC storekeeper, Krishnadatta Awasthi, said 864 quintals of rice were distributed in total.

In the past, subsidised food used to be distributed by the recommendation of the District Administration Office.

Currently, people of Raya, Lali, Chhipra, Kharpunath, Thehe, Bargaun, Dadaphaya, Syada, Hekpa and Khagal villages are receiving subsidised rice in the district.

The NFC depot said that the government has allocated 1,600 quintals of rice to Humla for this fiscal year. Half of the allotment has already been distributed to the people in the food-hit areas, according to officials.
