Six injured in Makwanpur prison clash
Six prisoners were injured in a clash that took place in a regional prison of Bhimphedi in Makwanpur district on Thursday.Six prisoners were injured in a clash that took place in a regional prison of Bhimphedi in Makwanpur district on Thursday. The injured jailbirds are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Hetauda. The jail administration said the clash occurred between Block B prisoners and prison guard Ramesh Kumar Lama.
The irked prisoners have accused Lama side of exploiting grocery operators in the prison, barring prisoners from expressing their complaints and appointing his assistants from only his group.
Among the injured, Divya Shrestha is said to be in critical condition. He is undergoing treatment at Churehill Hospital, said jailer Chiranjeevi Thapa.
The clash ensued at noon when guard Lama, along with his supporters, were doing a routine check in the prison rooms. The prisoners argue that Lama and his supporters beat six prisoners black and blue with a wooden plank.
There are 371 prisoners in the Block B of the regional prison. Lama was recently transferred to the prison from Kathmandu. Some old prisoners are furious over Lama being assigned to the position of prison guard within a short span of his arrival. Lama is accused of selling goods at higher rates than market value.
It is to be known that the prison guards have stake in the shops and mess operated inside the prison.
