Set a 157 to win, India replied with 160-2 in just 15 overs. The fourth defeat on the trot leaves Nepali bottom of the table in the six-team tournament. Nepal and Australia, the two teams who crashed out of the tournament, will play an inconsequential last match on Monday. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have secured the semi-finals berths. Top four teams after the round robin league made it to the last four.
Batting first after winning the toss, Nepal could not play full 40 overs as they crumbled to 156 runs in 37.5 overs. Bharat Thapa top scored for Nepal with39-ball 35 while Padam Badaila was their next best contributor with 24 runs. Nepal’s total was boosted by 35 extra runs. Prakash Jayaramaih took two, while Ajay Kumar, Rambir Singh, Prem Kumar and Jafar Iqbal claimed one wicket each for India.
India eased to victory despite losing opener Durga Rai (14) cheaply. Ani Gharai struck a quickfire 54 runs to accelerate the India chase, his 29 ball cameo included six hits to the fence. After the dismissal of Gharai, Mahender Vishnav and Rambir Singh carried their team to the finishing line. Vishnav remained unbeaten on 40 off 30 balls and Singh made 23-ball 38 not out runs. Surya Prasad Bhattarai and Bharat Thapa took one wicket each for Nepal.
Nepal fielded four players each in B1 (totally blind) and B3 (partially sighted) category along with three B2 (partially blind) category cricketers for the match.
