According to Article 163 of the constitution, there shall be a chief in each state, as a representative of the government. The term of office of a chief of state shall be five years, though the President holds the power to remove him or her from office.

 As per the Article no 166, the Chief of State shall exercise such powers and perform such duties as conferred to him or her pursuant to the constitution or law with the recommendation and consent of the State Council of Ministers. Such recommendation and consent shall be submitted through the Chief Minister.

The chief of state shall, prior to assuming office  take an oath of office and secrecy before the President, as provided for in the Federal law. The chief of state shall appoint the leader of the parliamentary party commanding the majority in the State Assembly as the Chief Minister, and the State Council of Ministers shall be constituted under his or her chairpersonship.

The State Chief will receive Rs 100,300 as monthly salary that includes Rs 40,000 as guest entertainment.  Additional Rs 18,000  will be provided for purchasing uniform.

Similarly, they will receive Rs 3,000 per day while travelling inside the country.  They will be provided $250 per day and will get additional 33 percent of the day’s allowance while travelling the counties other than the Saarc region and China. They will be provided free treatment and as per the recommendation of the Medical Council, and can go for treatment outside the country, as per the regulations approved by the government.
