CEC Yadav urges parties to help carry out NA election

Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has urged all political parties to help give a full shape to the federal parliament by holding the National Assembly election in a successful manner.

Inaugurating the election operation and management training programme for election officers, assistant election officers and district election officers to be deputed in the National Assembly election in the Capital on Thursday, CEC Yadav said that no one should carry out activities hampering the election management. “It is everyone’s responsibility to make the National Assembly election a success as it is being held to give a full shape to the federal parliament,” he said, adding that preparations are under way for the election.

Election Commission Spokesperson Nawaraj Dhakal said that the poll body was planning a technical centre to ease counting of the NA election. The NA elections will start at 10am and run until 3pm on February 7, the EC said.

A total 23 people, including district judges from Morang, Dhanusha, Lalitpur, Kaski, Dang, Surkhet and Doti participated in the training. Polling centres will be set up in all seven provinces. The EC has prepared four ballet paper samples for the training purpose.

Chairperson and vice chairperson of rural municipality, mayor and deputy mayor of municipality and state assembly members can cast their vote in the polls. There are a total of 2,056 voters for the elections (1,506 at the local level, and 550 at the provincial level).

According to the constitution, 56 members of the 59-member Upper House will be elected from the local and provincial levels, while the remaining three members will be nominated by the President on recommendation of the government.
