Talks begin to resolve Dhankuta protest
Protests in Dhankuta district demanding capitalhood continued on Friday as well. Dhankuta residents had been holding demonstration since mid-December demanding the district be named the capital of Province 1. In order to resolve the tension, the local administration has started dialogues with the agitating side at District Administration Office on Friday, informed Chief District Officer Prem Prakash Upreti. The meeting was underway when this report was filed.
Earlier, a meeting was summoned at the District Police Officer but the protesting side didn’t show up. Later the meeting was scheduled at the DAO.
The Protest Operation Committee coordinator Sunder Babu Shrestha said that both sides are presenting their reports and trying to find the solution to the problem.
Major political parties, parliamentarians and members of protest operation committee are present at the meeting.
The administration had issued prohibitory order after the protest turned violent on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the indefinite general strike called by the protesters has entered third day today, throwing normal life out of gear. Transportation, educational institution, factory and market places are shut today as well.
